My DD is going into her second year of 10U. Last year, we got her a Rawlings Shutout Catchers Mitt which worked out great but didn’t last long. I purchased an All Star CMW-3001 and she never got to use it since it was too big.

I recently ordered a Rawlings R9 mitt, and although it looks great, it doesn’t appear too much different than the Shutout.

I am now considering a Vinci Mitt - either the Fortus or the new mitt they are now offering - https://vincipro.com/product/limited-time-new-sleek-design-cowhide-leather-fast-pitch-catchers-mitt/

My main concern is the pattern of the Vinci. The Vinci pictures is not mine, but a picture I got from the guys at Vinci when I reached out. Seems “boxy” vs the Rawlings. Anyone have experience with the Vinci’s?

Cape Cod Mass.
It looks like the Vinci is a dual hinge mitt, it breaks/bends at the base of the thumb and at the edge of the palm. These mitts often need a bigger hand vs a single hinge like the Rawlings where the break/bend is across the whole base of the palm. The CMW is a single hinge but it sounds like it was just too large. Keep in mind that your daughter will outgrow a mitt that fits her now and will also be moving to a 12 inch ball soon.

Is it me or does the R9 look like a Liberty Advanced, just in all grey?

I'm hoping you didn't get rid of the All-Star - keep using it on the side to break it in - she'll appreciate using it in another year.

Plus - the pitcher's will appreciate her using it - it really accentuates the "pop" when you catch it right!

Thank you for the information on the single vs dual. We picked up the All Star to prepare for the 12 inch ball but it was huge and would fall off her hand no matter how tight we got it. We’ll definitely give it another look down the line.

The R9 series introduces the pro pattern but there are some differences. The R9 also has some of the same features as the Shutout and the Liberty. I did get rid of the All Star… I wanted to keep it for myself but couldn’t justify it as I am not coaching anymore. That said, it’s a great mitt.
