With all due respect you've missed the point about using facilities like this to PROMOTE the sport before, during and after Olympics. I'm sure Greece would've LOVED to have not built the stadium but they bid on the games KNOWING softball was included.

And Squaw knew bobsledding is a very popular Olympic sport, but had no intention of building a track for the event. Of course, don't really know if that would wash in this day and age of the almighty $$ and the awarding of the games about twice as far in advance as was the case in the '50s.

I haven't really missed anything. You cannot expect the priority of the host to be the support of the sport. It would be nice, but that is not the purpose or mission of the hosts.

Almost all foreign countries advertise the need for players who can get passports. Italy, Netherlands, etc. all do it annually for their competitions. Not quite to the extent Greece did for Olympics but... .still it's nothing new.

Yes, but the European countries are enlisting the aid of others for regular play, not solely the Olympics like the Greeks did.
