Brings up my point about the rule that batters dont have to get out of the way of pitches. And get awarded first base. That rule used to be had to make an attempt to get out of they way.

Some rule sets require an attempt to avoid. Some don’t. It’s not consistent across all alphabets.

LOL, this came up a few years ago and I asked DD if she wanted one. Her answer was no and 5 more years of catching went by without event. FWIW, This fall the new Plebe catcher on her team takes a foul tip between the legs. Several minutes of rolling around. Another couple of minutes walking it off. She seemed ok after 8-10 minutes but you could tell it was very painful.
