Factor in the speed of the game due to smaller field measurements...
Plays need to be quicker.
Even reaction time at the plate for batters is less.
Similar skill sets yes.
More defensive/offensive strategies used in fastpitch.
(small ball & lefties included)
Outfielders have more roles with runners in fastpitch.
Catcher has more role in fastpitch controlling runners,
not the pitcher like in bb.

Enough similarties to say they are alike sports, but not the same.

Simply recognizing how people familiar with bb will start coaching s.b. and not have a clue to the active role of CATCHERS in fastpitch.
( simply its not something they are used to being part of the sport)
If the catcher is not utilizied throwing back picks runners will take advantage on giant lead off's.
With the obvious difference in leads offs the bb pitcher controls vs.
Fastpitch runner leaves after pitch releases...
Have to build the defense around this element.
Control runners after the pitch regardless if its hit or runner stealing.
The defense has to learn to react to the batter and then catcher.
( stand there ground to then react to a hit, or timing and speed to attend the runners)

Pop time 1.3 back picks to 1st and 3rd
And
Pop time 1.7 back picks to 2nd
Are demanding skill sets by all defense involved!
Getting the throw there and defense covering to tag.

but I cannot take the male female parts out of the question, both physically and mentally, especially the mental.
So what exactly does that mean? Males and females can't switch sports? How does game mentality differ from men to women?

I'm sure I'm just reading it wrong

I'll tell you this, if a coach had asked me to cover 3rd on a steal when I was playing SS I would have told him to go jump in a lake. I signed up to play baseball..not run track
That's not a terribly successful play in FP either. You can do it in both sports, but you have to give up the middle of the field. I've never seen my daughters get out out at 3rd by a shortstop

I know tell that to my kid's coach  Trying to watch a 10 YO kid hold her position until the ball crosses the plate and then sprint to third while trying to not get trucked by the runner is enough to give a Dad a stomachache

Defense comming in from behind the runner, runners advantage!
As a runner, in that situation, like to use my body to get between throw, ball and glove.
and defense contends with
