DD (12U) started with IR when she was 8. Went through several coaches and asked around to find an IR coach. Yes, had to pay for many $50 lessons to realize the pitching coach wasn't teaching IR, then we ran the other way as fast as we could. I watched tons of videos on YouTube to learn the difference between IR and HE. It's not only with the finish (with elbow pointing out), but also with the body rotation and the snaps.

Now she is taking lessons with a Tincher coach, who is teaching her even more on what correct muscles to use, what are the correct postures, etc. People drive hours to come to this facility for lessons. We are lucky it's only 30 minutes away. DD is pitching faster and even more accurate. We often hear other parents and players commenting how a kid this tiny (4'9") can produce such power.

HE uses small muscles that eventually could cause injuries (except perhaps if the pitcher has tons of arm muscles.) IR uses larger muscles that rely on timing and postures so a little tiny kid can still pitch well. Switch to an IR coach as soon as you can. Even if you have to take a mini-vacation to see one for an eval and even a lesson, it's well worth it!
