Just so that you all know the umps called her safe at first, then our coach argued interference and they overturned the ruling calling her out. A runner on third had scored on the play, and with it changed to an out it was the 3rd out so the run did not count.
no response to that other than to cry! really bad decision.

Batter pops a ball up runs to first and stops on first, the ball hits her while standing on the base. The first baseman cannot catch the ball because it hits her. Is this interference? Does she have the right to the base?

Wait. She popped up, and had time to run to first before ball came down? Or is this a Hypothetical?

USSSA RULES section 18-a Runner is out when- N- EXCEPTION: If a runner is touching a base when hit by a batted fair ball, the runner is not out unless they intentionally interfere with the ball or an infielder making a play. The ball is dead or live depending on whether the closest fielder is in front of the base (live) or behind the base (dead)

I couldn't find anything about interfering a fielder while standing on base. But this says intentionally interfere, so if the runner is just standing on the base, That would not be interference. So basically if a runner is standing on any base, she does not have to move if a fielder is fielding a pop fly (or any ball)........Any other umpire out there see this differently?

I need to do some research ... but my initial thought is that a BATTER-RUNNER and a RUNNER are two different things, so I don't know that this applies. My initial thought is not interference, but that it is a batted ball that touched the batter-runner ... out regardless of her being on the base. Dead ball, runners return.

And yes ... what runner is stopping on first base?!

[USSSA] BATTER-RUNNER. The batter-runner is a player who has finished their time at bat
and has left the batter’s box (both feet touching completely outside the box) but has not
yet been put out or reached first base.
RUNNER. A runner is an offensive player who has reached first base and has not yet
been put out.

In the OP's question, the batter-runner is now a runner.

Yep, thank you @Crabby_Bob ... I was looking it up and found the same thing in USA. Looks like I may have kicked that one on the field!

However ... I would not have in

NFHS
ART. 2 . . . Batter-runner. The batter-runner is a player who has finished her time at bat until she is put out or playing action ends.

C'com man. Whole bunch of people explain the rule above and you come on and say the base is not a safe haven!
5am comes early. Relax a little. It was an opinion. You'll be OK. 20 years a baseball can stick. Hopefully you're on the field today. Go do some good
