Hey all,

We started our winter clinic this last sunday and have it for the next couple months. I have found several different drills to work on with our catchers but this year the only space available was in a gym with a real wood floor. Any ideas for what to put down so that our catchers can do drills with their leg guards on that would be somewhat realistic but also not destroy the floor?

I have looked at a couple options like rolls of turf but I need it to not weigh a million pounds and also fold/roll up to put into storage during the week.

Thanks!

just make sure you don't bring any of the sand and grit the mats catch in with you.....you'd be surprised how quickly the floor can get marked up

i have some old carpet remnants that we use just for this purpose

they can also wear sweatpants OVER their guards

I think I would just buy some new mats to use only for this purpose. Can get 3x5 ones from home depot for like $18/ea. Don't need a ton of them, really would only need 3-4 as even during our clinics there's only a few girls doing each drill at a time.

yeah, the mats are good in that they don't slide as much

the carpet remnants i have are that indoor/outdoor stuff, so they aren't bad.......but at HS practice we use mats

the sweatpants work pretty well, too

Knee pads.
Good 'ol knee pads.

Many varieties.
Longer ones too.
Like for vollyball

Set the shin guards aside.
Those are more for protection
on foul balls.

Agreed but they also need to be able to get used to having them on and be able to do all of their necessary movements with the leg guards on. In my opinion, if they can have the leg guards on, leave them on.

Agree with train/practice with game time equiptment when can.

So heck whats the big deal
:) stay outdoors....
Snow bundle up
Rain wear a poncho
Heat water and shade
Wind squint and goggles

Lets Get RAD 👍

Hey just a little heads up
careful if on mats and no shoes
wearing socks. Slippery and can strain feet/arches.
Happened to a team that trained in the wrestling room.
