I watched a video that a dude posted and he was using a pocket radar from behind the pitcher. Can you get an accurate reading from there? I've only seen people shoot with the ball coming at them, not going away.

How accurate are those? I've heard they can be off up to 8 MPH which generally makes them useless, doesn't it?

They work coming and going.

At least the ones I've used do. The same radar gun used to clock pitches is also used to measure exit velocity off the tee for batters. I don't think you want to stand in front of them to do that. ;)

The best place to stand is right behind the pitcher, which doesn't happen very often...
Next best place is right behind the catcher.

I've tested Pocket Radar against a $3000 Stalker two-piece. Was within 1mph for the entire game.
Both readings were from just above the catcher's head as he squatted.

Just my experience, I get maybe 2 mph faster on my pocket radar when I stand in the batter's box and measure the oncoming pitch vs. standing behind the pitcher. She's only throwing 50 so it's no problem getting out of the way if necessary.

Thanks for the info. The guy in the video had a u14 girl hitting 68. That seemed high for a girls I've never heard of, but maybe it's legit.
There are those unicorns. Our team has one that was 64 as a 13u and I know of a 15u that's a legit 70. Both kids are legit beasts and if you see them pitch in person you know they're the real deal.

The pocket radare seem to work best when right behind the catcher. It seems slower when behind the pitcher.
