Powell High School (TN) softball field is experiencing its worst flooding since 1993. it was built in 1992. Almost 4ft of water covering the entire field. We’ve already lost part of our 2 year old left field fence. The 8ft outfield fence was installed this winter. Hoping it holds up. I’m sure our infield is ruined. Prayers and well wishes are appreciated by all!

That sucks.. Girls probably all pumped to get started then that. Hope the weather clears up soon and damage is not bad.

Very difficult situation. A high school in our area has their field close to a river. It floods once every 8 to 10 years. Hard to imagine how much damage is caused unless you see it first hand. Best of luck with restoring the field. I know how difficult it is...

More rain last night. Water appears to have crested though. We know we’ve lost a new $3,000 tarp and $15,000 of new fencing installed over the last two years. Our shed was partially submerged with our gator and mower inside. The water is high enough to be over the engines. If those three are ruined, another $15,000. Who knows what we will have to do to repair the infield.

ARGH Horrible situation.

Was this a "flash" flooding type of event or was there some warning?

Maybe, for the future, the SB program has a contingency plan in place that if the water in stream reaches X feet that all the moveable stuff is moved (tarps, equipment etc) to higher ground?

Good luck.

Please keep us updated on the situation.

Definitely a flash food of historic proportion. There is a major creek directly behind our field that can rise in just hours. We are at the mercy of how fast the TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) is able to move water through it’s hydroelectric dams. The water hasn’t been this high at the field since 1993. We refer to these around here as 20 year and 50 year floods. Here is a pic of the second dam below us trying to move the water today.

WOW!

Do you have alternate sites to play or do your games become all away.

Tough situation.
