For me it's simple: The batter should not be obligated by rule to help the pitcher. Forcing the batter to get out of the way of a bad pitch is helping the pitcher.
Ehh ...
So ... not allowing runners to run over fielders in the act of fielding is forcing them to help the fielder? Why should a runner be required to not touch a batted ball that has not passed a fielder, isn't that helping the defense be able to field the ball? It's not the runner's fault the ball/fielder was in that spot.
