Does it happen only in the first game of the day, or any first inning?

Our 12u P1 had this issue off and on...until we realized that days we had a rec game in the morning (where she would usually get an inning or two in) followed by a travel game/games in the afternoon- problem disappeared.

On travel only days we had her throw a simulated inning or two beforehand.

Typically the first inning of the day. They have enough pitchers in TB that they'll split starting games on any given day. She has come in for relief from time-to-time and will do well.

But from experience, I know this varies from team to team. The most talented team I ever coached (18u) had four pitchers that are all playing college ball now. Every one of them had a different routine for warming up. It's a personal thing.

So much of being ready in the 1st inning is about preparation. The bat bag should be a survival kit for the pitcher--a spare glove, space shoestrings, Advil, feminine products, glove gloves for the cold, a sock hat, etc.

The pitcher should also have a plan for warming up without warming up.

E.g., learning how to play pitch and catch underhanded is a life saver. If a pitcher can do that, the pitcher can grab any player to do the initial "getting loose" part of warming up.

It's tough for us at the younger ages, as DD is also a hitter and a fielder. When she warms up pitching she often misses parts of those warm-ups. She needs those warm-ups too.

Yes, several ways around that. But not when practice/field space is limited, coach isn't really thinking about the pitchers much, etc. etc.

You have to develop that routine quickly. Pitchers and catchers hit first, then get their warm ups going. The pitcher being properly warmed up is definitely more important than getting in a few fielding reps. Pitchers really have to develop the ability to speak up and be forceful enough to tell their coaches and catchers what they need, even if it means skipping something everyone else is doing. They can't allow anyone else to get in the way of what they need to do even if it sometimes means pulling a catcher out of a drill or telling a coach they need to get started now instead of fielding.
