Saw this in a Middle School game last week.

R1 on first. 1 out. Batter's line drive to F6 is caught. F6 throws ball toward F3. R1 retreats to 1B steps on white portion of 1B before the throw is caught by F3 with her foot on the bag. R1's momentum carries her off of the white portion to the orange portion of 1B. F3 throws the ball to F1 in the circle.

Question. Was R1 in jeopardy of being tagged out while on only the orange portion of the base? Is the answer different for NFHS and ASA rulesets?

"Was R1 in jeopardy of being tagged out while on only the orange portion of the base?"

No. See Comp's answer above.

It becomes one big 15" X 30" base once the initial play on a batter-runner at first is complete. Runners may lead off from either portion base, or return to either when tagging up on a caught fly ball. Fielder's may use either portion to complete a tag play.

"Is the answer different for NFHS and ASA rulesets?"

No. The their double base rules and interpretations are the same.
