Please, EXTEND= reconfigure the recruitment window!!!
( open up more time to...)

With all the changes and new eligibility predicaments impacting college coaches and players planning and decisions.
EXTEND recruiting window to offer more
'look see' and 'conversation time' needed to sort through details.

Thoughts here on dfp?

This video with Sue Enquist really clarifies the predicament college coaches and players are in.

The recruitment window will stay closed until states from all around the country are deemed to have an equal opportunity to recruit. Expect July 1 or August 1 for the dead period to end.

I am afraid this recruiting period is going to be toast. There is so much that goes into dealing with this:

1. NCAA - possible extension of dead period.
2. Unfair advantage created if some schools can recruit and others cannot because States are open vs closed.
3. Many Universities are closed until Fall or later including the cancelation of all on campus activities through the summer.
4. Continued restrictions on the number of people in one location and social distancing requirements.
5. Venues closed, limited, or unavailable.
6. General view of the parents concerning personal risk of their athlete participating in an event.
7. College recruiting budgets frozen at this point in some cases, staff being laid off in others.
8. The additional year of eligibility issues that have been created - roster size, scholarships available, MONEY.

So, if we are just talking softball and the NCAA gives the month of August to the Fall Recruiting calendar, many high schools are starting back early to mid-August, so you week long events are out. Also, college coaches are going to be looking toward their fall season (if allowed) and are they going to take the chance of exposing themselves to the virus and being quarantined from their team for 14 to 21 days?

Ran across this article about Middle Tenn University baseball and softball recruiting...

"Pending the 2020 draft, Middle Tennessee baseball's roster could have had as many as 18 seniors in 2021. With those players gaining an additional year they could have as many in 2022 which was unforeseen. "

"When you add the seven incoming players and then the 18 seniors from the year before that's 22 players just in those two classes so that year we are already way over, but we have time to figure that out,"

That is a LOT of Seniors who could come back for a 5th year!!! That will screw up MT recruiting for years.

I was on an NFCA call last night with NFCA board members, attorneys, and DI coaches and they were all in agreement they did not feel the recruitment window would be extended.

I don't believe anyone was happy with the decision, but that was the consensus of the group. Lots of comments were made about the 2021 and 2022 classes getting a pretty raw deal when it comes to being recruited, but thats the spot we're all in. It sucks, but it sucks for all. I brought up Fall 2020 camps and most had the feeling of they won't be happening.

Just an update on this discussion but the SEC canceled all in person camps and clinics through July 31 for all programs. It was poorly worded. Some folks think it applies to on campus only and others interpret it as ALL in person camps and clinics. Either way it is a big blow for D1 and especially softball recruiting for this year.

Couple that with large programs like Clemson canceling all summer programs, Nebraska doing the same. Discussion about doing it across the BIG12 as well, I really do not see how the NCAA does not extend the recruiting dead period if that many programs are taking themselves out of the recruiting game. Now way the SEC concedes that recruiting ground if they do not think the rest of the D1 world is not going to follow.

With the possibility of dark period being extended.
Decision on it May 13th (?)
To the end of June (?)

Would seriously hope for a longer/extended recruiting window this summer and
come this Oct, Nov, Dec

Several more weekends for each, atleast!
