Every week I receive an email that links to pieces of instructional videos for fastpitch softball. And almost every week I end up shaking my head at what I see in them – especially because the company that sends the videos out is charging people good money for such poor instruction. This week held yet […]

He probably is. But if his team is having success, it's probably in spite of him rather than because of him. But either way he gets to claim the credit. ;)

I watched the same video you guys did, yikes. I'm not claiming to be a hitting guru...but about 30 seconds in I thought "surely he isn't teaching this at his level?"

i know, right? Old habits die hard I guess. And people tend to cling to things.

I can honestly say what I teach has evolved over the years, and thankfully so. But that's been a result of being willing to learn - and again, comparing it to what the best in the world do. Which is the cornerstone of DFP, in my opinion.

Absolutely! Hitting instruction has come a long way since I first got into the baseball/softball coaching world. The first time I had an interaction with Tewks on twitter, he really challenged me to think differently, and I'm glad he did. I'm thankful for places like this that keep thinking forward!

I've been coaching for almost 14 years and I've only in the last two years figured out how to mostly communicate hitting correctly. Working on pitching next. Luckily been able to mostly communicate being a catcher correctly for almost 5 years.

The good news is the kids who had success before you got smarter don't have to give it back!

I've been influenced by a lot of people - even some I think are full of it overall. Anyone can have a great insight. if you really care, and you guys obviously do, it's important to constantly question your own beliefs and see if there is a better way.

I definitely changed some of the way I teach pitching after Coach James' first clinic in Richmond with Rick Pauly, Javasource, Brandon Carr, Rich Balwsick, and the gang. Not that it was a huge departure overall, but there were absolutely nuances where I said, "That makes a lot of sense. And makes it easier too."

I hope to never stop learning and getting better. It's fun!
