I see that to be the case when coaches with good intentions just lob the ball with a high arc as has already been said. Its reduced a large amount when its thrown with more speed. Because it forces players to use a more natural bat path.

Their mistake was not understanding that the issue was not the speed of the pitches, it was the not getting strikes. Once they got that, their pitching usually improved a bit. Although, it is still difficult throwing a good strike when you get called out in relief and only get a couple of pitches an inning.
