Government will send checks to every person in the county. This is way worse than they are telling us.

Many Americans live paycheck to paycheck. Sometimes hard to see that as they have new cars, and new Iphones. If they can't work and have no savings they are in trouble.

Dr. Scott Gottlieb, former FDA commissioner, has some good thoughts on the situation and what needs to get done.

Ban me if you need to BUT Americans need to be informed about where this came from and why it happened. This is not a political post it is just factual.

I'd rather keep this site focus on softball rather than political. What China did or did not due at the start of the outbreak is some what irrelevant at this point because it's spread to all corners of the globe, Greenland got their first case the other day and they and Madagascar where the only 2 places not yet effected. Antarctica probably doesn't any cases either. Iran of all places is warning their citizens to brace for up to a million deaths possibly.

Now is not the time to point fingers and place blame. Now is a time to come together as Americans and work to solve this problem and get past the crisis phase. This really should be a non-partisan effort whether you are young, old, rich, poor, liberal, conserative, white, a person of color, religious, atheist, the disease doesn't seem to care and is happy to infect any one of those groups.

Not about pointing fingers. Its about understanding where and why this happened.
Knowing the origin and spread helps understand many aspects including death rates and transmission rates.
As a nation we can no longer turn a blind eye as to not offend anyone.

"Got their first case the other day" actually means Greenland has had it for at least two weeks and potentially has tens of thousands of people infected.

The exponential spread is due to the fact that the gestation period is lengthy, the contagious phase occurs before symptoms, and the testing period is even longer. It isn't that the cases aren't already out there ... it's just that we don't have any realistic grip on how widespread it is.

Use my county as an example (these are real numbers as of this morning):

We have just under 200,000 residents in the county. (It is a hub for several other counties, and the mid point on several major interstate highways, so the number of people in and out each day is far greater.)

We have FOUR positive tests. Of those, THREE actually are from collar counties.

We have had SIX negative tests.

We have THIRTEEN more tests waiting for results.

That is an impossibly small sample size since we have only tested ONE TEN-THOUSANDTH of ONE PERCENT (0.0001%) of our population. Using those numbers though (and I am NOT saying this is accurate!) ... 20% or 40,000 people in this county would have the virus. 30% or 60,000 people in this county are currently fine. The remaining 50% or 100,000 people have potentially been exposed and are questionable.

As for the comments on the Chinese government ... it is a fine line between information and politics. On the information side, it shows that lack of information and willful ignorance on ANYBODY'S part -- foreign government, our government, our citizens, ANYBODY -- is what helps this thing spread even faster.

including those in power and their cheerleaders here who downplayed it and said they personally had it all under control . . . until yesterday when they realized that the misinformation would not passs eye test even to the willfully blind.
