10U Rec Ball -

Last night, one of our coaches (Coach A) "bumped" into another coach after a game. Coach A has been complaining for most of the second half of the season about the number of travel ball coaches we have in our 10U Rec league. 5 of our coaches in our 8 team league (ironically, including Coach A) have coached at the B level during the summer.

Coach A and his family members coach one team that is struggling this season. Coach A doesn't believe that the rules we adopted for 10U this season - dropped third strike and stealing home allowed - are appropriate for a rec league.

No one on the Board of our league witnessed this bumping incident. However, one other 10U Coach witnessed this event. The witness is one of the Coaches who has had run-ins with Coach A and his family.

We have one game left in our regular season and play a 10U inra league tournament next week.

Given that none of the board witnessed the incident, we do not have grounds for dismissal under our by laws. However, physical contact between coaches should never be tolerated at any level.

Any ideas on how we should react to this incident given our internal rules?

Thanks

The emotions run high in 10U rec ball because the stakes are so very, very low.

Two board members (not three, not one) should go talk to the coach and tell him that physical contact between coaches will not be tolerated.

He will deny it happened, make excuses, and try to argue that the rules are wrong. None of what he says matters, so don't argue with him. You aren't there to debate the wisdom of the "dropped third strike rule".

The response is, "We didn't witness the incident. Whether it happened or not doesn't matter. However, if we do see anything like this by any of our coaches, that person will be removed as coach and he/she won't be allowed to coach again."

No matter what he says, you always counter by saying, "We don't care. If we see any coach touch a coach, player, umpire, parent or fan in any kind of threatening way, that coach is gone immediately."

Our youth league has a fantastic deterrent for this behavior. If the adult cannot "behave" then the adult and the child is banned from participating. Might sound harsh to ban the kid but it does keep the idiot parents in check.

Yeah, change your by-laws. A judge and jury never witness a crime upon which they must make a serious, possibly life-altering decision, yet they seem to still be able to usually come to a conclusion.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!
That is classic!
OMG....wiping tears away from my eyes

On a side note, I have to agree with him on the rule, I don't think that running on missed 3rd strikes and allowing home to be stolen on passed balls are that great for 10U rec ball.

Not to excuse the bumping, just my opinion.
