That Rawlings HOH Mitt that you have mocked up in the post above was available on Amazon and with WikiBuy (the add-on app) for under $180 a couple weeks ago in the black, gray and white leather. And I'd also say that many bucketdads seem to do just fine with the Liberty Advanced that DD can also use as a backup (or more) if needed.

I have average size hands and I use the Akadema praying mantis fastpitch catcher's mitt to catch for my DD. Has worked great. I tried using a 1B baseball mitt as well and it hurt like hell. I have used a baseball catcher's mitt before, but prefer the fastpitch glove. A larger hand would not work in the Akadema as it is even pretty snug for me. Not sure about models for larger sized hands.

I use that same glove and really love it. Was broken in on arrival. Makes me wonder if it'll be good enough when my DD gets over 50 mph though.

Curious what Anna's Dad thinks of it. You can be honest with me. :p

Honesty, the only Akadema I’ve ever had on my hand before was a leather paddle trainer..........it was nice though! ;)

This is for daily use, bucket dad with larger size hands (longer fingers rather than fat fingers). DD is getting to the point where speed is increasing (hitting 52-53 per pocket radar) and movement is really coming now. She about took my thumb off last night with a hard breaking drop on the inside corner, so I think it's time to start breaking in a catchers mitt. I've been using a Rawlings GG Elite first base glove for the past few years to catch both 12u DD and 11u DS and had no real problems with it.

So, if money wasn't a concern, what would you pick? Like I said, this isn't a show piece, it's for almost daily use. I'm a Rawlings fan so my current first pick will be a Rawling's HOH unless someone convinces me otherwise. What say you?

I have not used this model but, I have rather wide hands. I have a mizuno model from a few years ago. 34" with a hand opening that has a strap with velcro seem to fit a larger hand the best. I will try to take a picture of mine after work.

For a retail mitt, I don't think it can be beat! If I were going to buy a Rawlings, it would be a custom for me, but that's double the price of this All-Star!

I just ordered this today for myself.
Any dos or don'ts as far as breaking it in?
My only other catcher's mitt prior to this was a dual hinge Mizuno.

Thanks!

I’ve been thinking about ordering myself a catchers mitt, where’d you order yours from?

HQ4SPORTS. Had a good price and free shipping.

The All Star site does give you an extra 30 days for returns though.

Was not available at Just Ball Gloves, which has a great return policy: You can return used gloves.
