Well just putting this out there daughter just turned 11 now pitching with the 12 inch ball speeds have dropped just throwing the bigger ball as expected. Her coach hopes she can be close to 50 by next spring just wondering if that's a long shot or do any of you dads pitchers have any good drills that work for you guys thanks. Also our season is over so onto fall and winter training no games until spring normally start March or April depending on weather.

Long Toss. If you search the term on the site, you'll find discussion of how to approach it.

If too cold to pitch outdoors, then pitching from extended distances indoors.

Yeah thank you we started doing more long toss recently. We will know as we get into the winter months and recheck her speed to see how things are going. How much is too much long toss if you don't mind me asking days per week

And again 50 mph is just a number that he gave us at 11 being a first-year 12u is just a number we can strive for LOL

Just turned 11 makes her a fairly young 12U, as she'd still be eligible for 10U (since it sounds like she was still 10 as of 12/31/19).

What speed is she throwing now that makes her coach expect/hope her to be around 50 in 6 months?

Yes we played 10U this spring but jumped up to 12u this fall for about 10 games longer-distance bigger ball slow her down. Game speed 44 -46 me and her trying to throw fast 46-48.

I hope she's pitching on an A or B level team - we're first year 12's as well, and none of our 4 main pitchers are over 40 (we just tested them last week). The ones that hit 40 consistently, no one accuses of being "slow". One is a 2010, the rest 2009. From what I've seen in the few 12U tournaments and scrimmages so far, 44-46 would put her in the top bracket for C-level pitchers. So 46-48 as a new 12U would have me glad we don't have to face her!

Again actual game speed is only 44 -46 she never throws as hard as she does when we're just messing around. also maybe when we start to grow a little might get a little stronger.

Long toss and work on spinning that bigger ball. She probably lost some spin changing. Spin the fastball. Spin it forward. Spin it. Spin

Developing velocity is all about intent (assuming mechanics are good). You won’t find velocity in a drill. She needs to long toss with intent. She needs to develop strength - which at her age probably means body weight exercises only. She needs to increase her running speed with sprints. Every little bit helps. We have a 10 year old on our team who throws 50-52 mph. She’s also our best athlete, fastest runner, and can do a backflip. It’s not a coincidence she also throws hard.

related note - the hitters I work with always want more power. I tell them if you want to be able go hit a ball 400 feet then you need to look like a dude who can hit the ball 400 feet.
