I've seen some of the dodger players, tap the bat to their shoulder during their gather and stride also.

Sorry, I should have added some text. The hitter ended up in the typical position at toe touch.

The barrel should turn off the shoulder, not be dragged off it down the length of the bat.

There use to be a rear deltoid drill post that straightleg showed of his daughter. Can't find it. I find it very useful for learning players and struggling hitters.

I use it in off season quite a bit....and will often take a girl that is not hitting linedrives back to that drill. I think the only variation from what he showed is....I have them get the back side loaded..taking the slack out..and attempting rotate more around the rear side. Your just in a wide stance, slotted rear elbow, bat on outside shoulder.....load rear side...lift front foot and go.

It takes the arms out of the equation and becomes a rear side...hip/torso and turn hands drill. A dynamic "go" drill if you will. It also can be done with neck slot.
