Around here there are 23U teams which many college players participate in.

DDs team mostly consists of 2022s with a few 2023s, it's a 16U team but they play 18U regularly and do very well.

Ever since the recruiting rule change, I've started to see a lot of 2022s on 18u teams also.

Isn't 18U- 18 and under? How many college sophomores are 18 or under. Average age of a college Freshman is 19, so how does this occur?

I think they're talking about someone going into their sophomore year, so the summer between Freshman and Sophomore years.

Had a HS player graduate this year. She was born 9/1/02. She'd be 18U eligible next year.

It's gotta be rare for someone to be 18U eligible after their Sophomore year though.

I turned 18 my freshman year of college (was 17 when I entered) so I could have played 18U travel between my freshman and sophomore years of college (If that was a thing way back when). I was an October baby who started school early.

DD played 1 year of 14u, 1 year of 16u, and 4 years of 18u. The last was after her freshman year of college. Common to see college players in 18u tournaments in KC.

Cutoffs for USSSA and, I believe, Tournament USA are based on the player's age at the end of the preceding calendar year. For example, my older just finished her freshman year of college. She is now 19, but was still 18 on Dec 31st, 2019. So, she could play 18U for the 2020 season.

My DD's team is an 08 team (1st year 12U) and has mostly 2026 and 2027 grads and one 2028 grad. The 2028 is not bad but her father is a pain in the rear.
