Can you explain how this is possible? I'm curious about the math.

Because if a player turns 11 on Jan 1st, and is therefore eligible to play 10U for that year, she would be 11 years, 364 days on Dec 31st of that same year. So someone playing 10U on Dec 31st would be very close to 12, but not over it.

What am I missing?

Thanks!
sorry, did not proof read, meant 11 years old (ie turned 11 in January)

This is exactly what I've been hoping the WIN VR helps with my kid...

Get thousands of reps in a VR world for timing...

If you face her a few times a year I would just do the best you can, encourage the girls and concentrate on what you face the other 90% of the year. Why these people are telling you about pitching advice and how great their daughter is at pitching is beyond me.

There is a pitcher on a team we play a few times a year that just dominates us. Most of my girls are new to travel ball, or have 1 year of experience. The pitcher we face has a consistent 50mph FB and a change up she can locate. My girls can’t catch up to the FB at all. Should I have my girls trying to bunt her, or is there a better way to attack her?

FYI...we are a “C” level team. We have decent hitters and decent pitching, but nothing special. I like the challenge of facing better teams, but I’m struggling with this one.

It's January, was that her speed in the fall? She'll probably be throwing even faster in the spring/summer. If she hits 55mph, that's the equivalent of a 95mph MLB fastball. Not too many 10 year old girls in the country can hit that. I mean 50mph at 35 feet is an 86mph equivalent.

Many of us have experienced this situation of facing a very dominant (fast) pitcher when our daughters were young. At 10U, some girls will show grit and moxey in the batters box when facing this type of pitcher. This behavior should be recognized and praised by the coach. Those girls have the best chance of long term success.

I am familiar with your situation having observed something similar last year within our organization.

I guess first off I would say that a 10u pitcher with a 50 mph fastball who can also throw and locate a change up does not belong playing at C level. Unfortunately, you do run into this from time to time, often with parents or coaches who don’t realize they’re holding the girl back by not challenging her against A/B level competition.

That being said—I think you were on the right track with trying to get some bunts down and make her move around a little bit. Many (not all) girls at that age won’t throw the change up unless they are ahead in the count so I’d probably suggest attacking early so at least your team is getting themselves a fastball—-although it sounds like there are struggles there too.

You can crank up the speed in practice and help develop your girls, but given that she is an outlier, it’s probably not worth going nuts trying to simulate in practice if the other 95% of your games the pitching is slower.
Don’t bunt. Either tell them to hunt the fastball or change up. 10u at any level should not be about “how to attack a pitcher”, it should be about learning fundamentals. Teach them to hit and only bunt if the situation dictates it. Get a pitching machine and slowly work
them up to 50 to 55mph. Remember it needs to be placed at around 30 feet(release point)I am assuming you are playing up which is why you don’t mind facing this level of pitcher. Once in the game I would try the swing at every pitch approach. Go Go Go. 50mph at 35 feet is equivalent to about 62mph from 43 feet. Top level stuff that even an A level team would have trouble with. Don’t think you are going to win the goal would be to get a real hit in a game against a pitcher like that. Let the A level teams strategize and bunt.

Long term plan needs to be to work on hitting. The reality is that as time goes on the girls will be looking at 50+ from every pitcher they face not just one girl they occasionally face.
