I was a baseball HC at that age group and I am sorry your son had a bad experience. It is not like that around here.
The bad coaches are weeded out.
Softball HC's DD played SS or pitched. Once we hit a neutral coach, school ball, she was in trouble. I still do not know why parents do not understand this.

Baseball is far worst than softball in opinion. Daddy ball is rampant and it isn't even funny. I remember I showed up at one of my sons game and the assistant coach pitcher plunked 6 batters in a row. Unfortunately, they don't get to take a base. I knew there was a dad that played College ball in the stands. I handed him a ball at the change of the inning and told him run out there and start pitching. He did...the kids all hit...and they won the game. The assistant coach that got replaced yelled and cursed at me in the parking lot. Used every obscenity in the book. In the end I asked..."Did they win the game?". He finally shut up after that.
