I do love this super high level talk. A week ago my DD was at a camp and got catching instruction from JMU's asst coach. She stated that her pitchers averaged hitting their spots only THIRTY percent of the time. Someone needs to get her these pitchers that can hit every pitch within an inch!!!

Looking forward to her being challenged and I'm sure she will be. Kinda trying to ask a double question. Also, wondering what speed she will see while hitting.

We just finished our second year of 14's and honestly I don't think a lot of girls throw much harder than they did in the second year of 12's. They did probably pick up a couple of miles an hour but the biggest difference has been how their accuracy and movement have improved. I would guess your DD will see pitching anywhere from low 40's to high 50's with a freak or two that can touch 60. The hard part is facing the girls throwing 50 and then the next game seeing a girl that's 10 mph slower.

In 12u high level tournaments (PGF, Select Elite) low 50s over the plate is going to get smashed. Gotta hit spots. Rambler is spot on, our girls would rather hit high 50s than high 40s.

All last year our hitting got killed by slower pitching. And we were probably a high B team, definitely not A. Of course, there's a sweet spot. Once you pass it, it's too fast and they can't hit that either.

Ocala, Fl., PGF tournament with 36, 12U teams. I didn't see anyone throwing consistently over 55.

FWIW I have radared probably 30 12u girls in the last two weeks at open tournaments with some B, A and strong A. Pocket radar. 10-12 pitches each. Some in the low to mid 40s, 90% in the 47-51 range and then one 53-54, and one 57-60. The last kid flat dominated with nothing but a FB....until she faced a good team. Had them scoreless through 3 and gave up 12 runs in the next inning when they adjusted their timing.

I have seen one over 55 consistently the last two years. With that said, my daughter threw in 5 games this weekend and was normally 52 but in the 4th game in the middle of a hot day she was 54 to 55 Change, drop, and curve very sharp.. Sometimes you can't figure out 12 year old girls. She threw a one hitter and was pretty dominate. If you had seen her the other games you would think thought I was blowing smoke.

In the fall what speeds would you expect to see in 12U Class A ball? Especially in the Atlanta area.
12U speeds should be generally high 40’s to mid fifties. There are a few girls in the country that throw high 50’s low 60’s. I’m using ASA/USSSA 12U All American studs from the past couple of years as a reference.

My 12u has one pitcher that throws 55 and hits spots then my DD that throws 49-50 and has movement. This year both get hit but the movement stays infield and is hit less. Right now we are working on movement that crosses the plate in different spots. Hard work for sure but DD threw a one hitter this weekend using the different locations.
