12U DD hitting with the new Mizuno F19 PowerCarbon

May 21, 2014
in my head this is what makes sense...

hitting is geometry and sequence. Because her hands start so far out in front, she never really "builds the coil" on top. Rear elbow doesn't get into the scap (not showing numbers to the pitcher). I would either have her start more "loaded" (knob to the catcher) or really work on starting the load/gather early so she is comfortable with building the coil on top every time. My experience has taught me it's easier for softball girls this age to start preloaded than to trust they will load on time every time.

And then sequence. Load gather. Then stride. You can tell she's a pusher because if you stop the frame where her front foot touches her hands are already moving forward. Hands should stay back until after rear knee has triggered the swing. She should be separating her front side and her hands as much as possible. The visual is you should see her hands somewhere over her rear foot (from a straight side view) when the front foot touches. From there I would focus on using the rear knee as the trigger. Knee triggers the hips, hips lead the hands and then contact.

Was going to state that but,....you know...'can of worms'.
Never creates a corner...hands never get behind the hips(corner) for them to pull.
I see this type of swing all the time when I am sitting and watching lessons that the org head gives (while I wait for my DD to finish practice at the indoor facility). He tells all the girls he wants them to be short
so they just keep their hands where they are in their handset and swing from there. Then he tells them good job, nice and short.

I would have no problem of her keeping the hand position in the stance, but I would have her move them down/back/up and below or at shoulder level. Nothing wrong with starting the hands there, just don't try to swing from there.

Ever one's fav......Learn to turn the barrel to the ball.....Right Nowwwwwwwwwwwww.

Sort of a two pronged issue.

On one end it helps to have a mentality to work the barrel.

On the other end it helps to prepare the body for the objective of working the barrel.

Before one "turns the barrel" 'Right Nowwwwwwwwwwwww', they first need to be prep'd to accomplish such a task ... however, if you don't know that task should be accomplished, then you aren't likely to prepare for that task.

In this swing the torso is not being leveraged to start the swing. The lead arm is without a clue of its role. What we have is a simple push.
I’m a nobody with very limited experience with this. But I would start with back leg drive. Get the feeling of the push from ground with back leg which forces the hips around. That would be my starting point. After that video again and reevaluate.
