Why is Texas included in this grouping of states that is considered the SW/West Coast Region? I would consider Texas more South Central or even Southeast than the prior. Yes El Paso may be closer to Los Angeles than it is to Beaumont, Tx, but Texas is a better fit with Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas than Hawaii and California. Just sayin'.

Some regional names date back prior to the US stretching from coast to coast. That explains OH being Midwest.

"Southwest" is also used for the western portion of the South (e.g. OK, AR, TX, LA). Southwest Conference was TX teams and AR.

I view OK and TX as being a mix of the South and the West.

I didn't make make OP very clear. Why on DFP is Texas lumped in with the Western States? On the other softball forum they have it broken down by individual state.

The states on the other softball board aren't on the main menu and 45+ have little-to-no activity...

IMO, regional works if they're formed according to active users' areas of interest. They can be split into smaller ones whenever it's warranted by different active groups of users. I agree Texas doesn't belong with Cal, however do you think it's worth separating them?

Only makes sense. Not that it's a big deal either. Let's say a team is advertising tryouts and this team is an area that can pull from adjacent states. Louisiana, Ark, or Oklahoma. There is a contributor on this board who lives in OK that has a kid that played for a team in Houston. Not saying that team would even advertise tryouts here. Just making a point is all I am doing. I do like to see what is going on in other states even if they are far away and I have no connection. I even like the banter that goes back and forth which is mainly on the other site. Another point and I will be done. If you look at every west coast college roster you will be hard pressed to find any Texas players. I can think of one. UCLA, but she was originally from SoCal to start with.

I think when we made up the regions at the time, Texas was closer to Arizona and California in terms of quality. Cat Osterman being a prime example. Maybe there's been a dropoff?

At the end of the day you have to draw the lines somewhere to have regions. Most maps put Texas with Arizona and New Mexico at a minimum.
