It seems like since I've hit high school, I've been injured in some form or another. Let me list all the injuries I've had since I've entered high school...

Freshman:

Was in an auto accident and had whiplash (I wore a neck brace afterward), cracked ribs and a broken foot.

In Field Hockey, I tweaked my knee and had a sprained ankle (the other leg, not the foot I broke)

In Basketball I had tendonitis in my right elbow and had jumper's knee.

In Softball I broke my elbow where I needed surgery to repair it

Sophomore:

In field hockey I had more knee and ankle issues

In Basketball I had some issues with elbow tendonitis and the jumpers knee creeped back up. I also had some issues with muscle spasms in my biceps.

I don't think I had any injury issues in softball.

Junior:

From cheerleading, I have had back spasms, knee and ankle issues

From softball, I had a concussion, issues with my back spasming up (a trip or two to the chiropractor cleared that up), aches and pains in my knees and ankles and now two fractured fingers and a fractured hand.

I'm feeling kinda down with all of the injuries I've had plus with our team getting hot within the last few weeks and now I can't play while we're doing so good. I've just kinda gotten into a funk the last few days.

So, how did I get injured this time around...not watching where my hand was while unloading stuff from the cars with two little cousins running around and they decide to slam the passenger side door closed while the hand was in the way of the door. I thought I could play through the injury with my fingers and hand wrapped in ace bandage. But the swelling and redness never went away. I finally went to the walk in clinic, got referred to imaging and an orthopedist. I'm currently wearing a splint and ace bandage and now am waiting to see the orthopedist on Tuesday to hopefully get a cast. Oh joy . Have any of your daughters been this injury prone and how have they made it through it because it seems like I can't stay healthy for an entire season?

OK, nobody has replied for the past couple of weeks.

I'll mention something my brother told me after I had a nasty bicycle accident, from which I never completely recovered. (I worked very hard in therapy so I have about 99% of my previous motion in my arm, but I still have a metal plate in there and my wrist cracks whenever I move it.)

My brother had his share of bike accidents. I think he broke two helmets, which is better than breaking his skull twice. His take on it is you have two choices: be a couch potato and die early of a heart attack, or go out and have fun doing the things you love and get injured.

Other than that, I have no idea what you could do to reduce you injuries. Best of luck and speedy recovery!

Mine will twist her ankle just walking. She wears ankle braces when practicing. From researching online, we have started working on leg and core strength as well as balance. She is working to improve her proprioception to reduce injuries. The idea is with better balance and strength, injuries will be minized.

Also, you may be giving 110% on the field. You might dial it back just a little. Would be better to give 100% and last all season, or 110% and be out after 1/3 of the season?

Here are a couple of articles if you want more info:

All four of my kids have had some kind of athletic injuries.

DS tried track once. He got shin splints and missed a meet or two, but one of the meets was snowed out anyway. Since then, no serious problems with injuries. He has been rowing for 7 years -- from his sophomore year in HS to his senior year in college. He graduated last Saturday, but still has a race (IRA National Championships for any rowers out there) in a few days. His HS rowing club and his college rowing team heavily emphasized safety and health. Rowing creates nasty blisters, and that sometimes leads to infections. Several of his friends were hospitalized with particularly nasty infections.

I like that his coach has the team work with professional trainers who can help them get into shape without injury. Injuries really mess up a team.

DD 1 played a lot of sports up to her freshman year in HS, but no serious injuries. She still loves to exercise and run a lot. She spent her freshman year on the JV 2 team at her HS. She was way too good for that team. Almost every time she got to bat she got on base. If she got to first, she would steal second. Then third. Then home on a passed ball. Almost every time. She really tore up her legs, and when she was recovering, she went biking and scraped up her legs. She blames softball, of course. She still has some scars.

DD 2 tried a few rec league type sports in middle school. In HS she tried track, but got a season-ending injury before her first meet. Later she tried XC, and missed the last two meets due to injury. She is happier going to the gym and whatnot and not getting injured.

DD 3 has gotten injured twice, and both times playing in tournaments made the injury worse. Once her wrist was bandaged up for a while, another time she was in a boot for a while. She only missed a total of one tournament and one XC race due to injury.

The catchers I know, well, they are injured a lot.

Well, I have noticed since my daughter hit high school it seems a lot of players around her that I see have some kind of injury. Hope you heal up soon.

DD used to be very accident prone. Over a period of about 18 months she broke her pinky playing basketball, ruptured the bursa sac in her elbow making a throw from CF to home, tore ligaments in her ankle by being taken out at 1st base (was in a boot for 8 weeks), got a concussion in basketball (took a charge and was out for 2+ months), sprained her other ankle, jammed her ring finger to the point we all thought it was broken (basketball again), got cleated and required 7 stitches in her shin, and probably some more I'm forgetting.

Knock on wood, she's been healthy now for the past couple of years, minus twisting her ankle walking down the stairs yesterday. *eye roll*

Hopefully you heal quickly...I know for my daughter being injured was the worst. She wanted so badly to get back to doing what she loves.

At the high school I work at there seems to be tons of injuries. It seems like every team; volleyball, basketball, softball, and especially football, all have several kids with torn ACL, MCL etc. Even our competitive cheer team. There are way more injuries than I remember ever seeing when I was in high school, 75 years ago...

Sorry to hear of your latest injury. That really sucks. Fortunately, my DD has only suffered from scrapes and bruises so far.

Some of your injuries are accidents and can't be helped. Others are recurring issues - back spasms, tendonitis, knee and ankle issues.

When you are mended, perhaps get a trainer or PT to help design a fitness program to address the recurring issues.

I don't know how to prevent the injuries, but make sure you enjoy the times you get to play. So many take if for granted, but I'm guessing you won't.
