Gabby I’m glad you got it checked out. Like I said, that’s exactly the diagnosis and treatment my daughter got. The two weeks rest did help a lot, then she would wear the brace and it eventually did go away. Thankfully. Good luck to you and heal up quick!

Thank you for the get well wishes, Pop Time. I'm glad I got it checked out and I know where my elbow stands. No throwing for 2 weeks, but I can still do my recieving and blocking drills as well as being able to participate in cheer. I'm wearing my brace now and my elbow feels a lot better than earlier. Then again my mouth is killing me since I had a orthodontist appointment this morning where I got my first set of elastics and powerchains and I'm also taking Ibuprofen.

Good luck, and I hope you get back to 100% action quickly.

Maddie actually had a new elbow pain (different spot than before) pop up recently, but seems to be doing okay now after a little rest and regular ice/Advil treatment. Overall, she's doing great. Even during her 10 weeks of no-throw limitation, she was able to bat, which made the time tolerable for her (barely - lol).

Thank you for the get well wishes, Eric. I'm looking forward to being able to start throwing again. I'll probably be nuts not being able to throw for 2 weeks, lol. But, I'll be able to do my recieving and blocking drills for catching as well as being able to run to keep in softball and cheerleading shape. Plus cheer shouldn't be an issue either for the elbow. The scary part of the injury for me was that it was the elbow I had operated on in 2016. I'm just glad that there was nothing structurally wrong with it.

I'm sorry to hear Maddie has a new elbow issue. Hopefully, she is able to return to action soon and be a beast for her team. What was the issues she had with her elbow before? I know you were saying on another thread that this has been a rough year for her. What all injuries did she have?

My older DD was a cheerleader in HS - a flyer. She fractured her wrist her sophomore year. She was constantly bruised and sore. I recall a couple of the base girls had knee injuries. From everything I've read and heard, cheerleading is near the top for injuries in HS sports.

As I mentioned before, Maddie had a ulnar nerve issue developed from an incorrect throwing mechanic that kept her out for 10 weeks at the beginning of this year. Before that, she had an elbow tendinitis issue that kept her out for a few weeks. This year she also had a concussion and a broken finger. Her current issue is pretty minor, and seems to be working itself out. She is playing now - and kicking @$$ - but we are monitoring her very closely for any more signs of discomfort.

I'm in the same position as your oldest daughter, Eric. I like being a flyer but its kinda scary sometimes being thrown high in the air. Thankfully, I've avoided serious injury so far (knock on wood). I've had a broken arm before...so I know how much it sucks. I'm sore and bruised almost everyday from cheer let alone from catching in softball. My only real cheer injury right now is a tweaked ankle because my base let me down kinda funny a couple of weeks ago at a football game and I didn't get a chance to straighten out my foot before I landed.

Wow, I can't believe the injuries Maddie's had this year. I thought my summer in 2016 was rough having surgery and not swimming or going to Florida was rough. I can't imagine how rough this year was for her. I'm thankful I haven't had a concussion. I could have easily when I had that foul ball come back and get me in the facemask last year.

That is EXACTLY how Maddie got bit - foul tip. 6 weeks on the bench.

Stay safe, Gabby. I hope you are back in action real soon.

My daughter was a cheer base for awhile. Cheer beats you up for sure. She had back issues and it was pretty routine to see a girl in a boot or a sling at competitions. She only gave it up because with softball it was too much. In the Spring we would have too many conflicts with cheer competitions and tournaments. At least for her, she didn’t want to balance both. I couldn’t imagine it now with her school workload. I swear that kid has homework every single day to do, including weekends.

My older DD made the opposite decision, and went with cheer. After it was over, she told me she should have stuck with softball - lol.

I know it can happen just that quick. My brother is nursing a concussion right now, his second from a car accident (not his fault). He had his first when he was a freshman in HS playing football. He was running with the football in the third quarter and the opposing tackler led in with his head hitting my brother in the head while tackling him. I think he was out 8 with it. What was it like for her? I'm just lucky I was hit in a more solid part of the helmet.

I'll try to stay safe. My ankle is pretty much healed from my cheer injury. I still wear an ankle brace when I cheer...but I don't need it for softball. My elbow doesn't hurt as much as it did. The only real pain I have is in my mouth from the orthodontist visit yesterday where I got elastics and powerchains.

Yeah, cheer definitely does beat you up. I don't know what beats me up more...cheer leading or catching in softball, lol. Even though were 7 weeks into football season (we're 4-3), we have injuries across our entire squad. We have girls with injuries as routine as tweaked ankles and other sores clear up to concussions, a broken arm and a broken leg. I also know about all the homework and trying to balance it with sports. I have an AP heavy course load this year and it seems like I have at least 2 hours of homework every night even though I do as much as I can at school.

Maddie took a foul tip straight to the cage - square on. At the time, it rattled her, but she checked out okay, and finished the game (including making a great pump-fake and throw to shut down an attempted delayed steal). During our break between games, the headache came, and we shut her down immediately. That headache lasted 6 weeks, slowly - very slowly - tapering off. She never lost coordination, balance, vision, or consciousness. The ONLY symptom was a headache.
