Hi folks,

My DD's team (we are from Canada) has a tournament in Michigan on July 1. Unfortunately due to the political BS between our 2 countries right now over NAFTA etc etc I am wondering what the feeling is like down there right now towards Canadians. I was reading a tweet from one Canadian team returning from a tournament this past weekend and they recommended not to travel to the States right now. I don't know what all that is about? So I am just curious. No intention of this being a political debate, I know that is against forum rules, but I want my DD to have a memorable experience at the Motor City Showdown.

Cheers

Lived in Florida for a while, agreed with the no Speedos for guys law they passed. It was aimed at your country.

She will have a great time, be very disappointed if she did not.

I live in Michigan and have seen nothing in anyway that would suggest your team would be treated any differently than any other team. You are much more likely to be treated differently being from OHIO than you are Canada.

Just spent the weekend in Ohio and it was great, as usual.

I have experienced biased umpires when playing in the USA before, Sitting behind the backstop I heard one umpire ask the other which team was the Canadian one. We went through 3 pitchers trying to get a strike called in that game...

But..

I have experienced much worse bias just playing in another Canadian town - when the home team gets all the breaks and even at home with an umpire from out of town...

Out of HUNDREDS of games we have played in the USA, we have only felt singled out for being Canadian a couple of times (another was when a tournament organizer refused to give out 3rd place hardware because we were Canadian).

The Motor City Showdown will be a lot of fun. Looking forward to it.

Edit: Just saw the tweet - I think they meant the tournament they were at was crappy.

I would like to think their would be Zero problems with you playing in a tournament in the US. In my area of the country I get the impression that their is any negative feelings towards Canadians. I hope I am not being naive with that assumption.

I guess it all just a coincidence. We've played in the US before and had one of out best experiences. I was just getting caught up the current trade war, nasty words between our leaders and of course being in the US on July 1st when then Trade war crap could hit the fan. Pair that with the tweet ... I just wanted to gauge the temperature, cheers

If your ump tweets the ball and strike calls with improperly formed sentences I would be worried..Otherwise you should be fine.

LOL... god help us all if that's the case. That would be "Big-League", (sometimes mistaken as "Bigly") umpiring and we would be in deep "Covfefe"

On the plus side he would know all the rules because he has one of the world's greatest memories..
