Looking for some feedback on the Gameday USA tournaments - mainly the 14U in IL. Do they draw quality teams?
Thanks in advance

We were not happy w the one tournament we played . One umpire games and very low quality umps. They were very secretive regarding registrations we didn't know until the last minute if we had enough teams to fill a tournament despite asking for regular communication to insure we had a place to play that wknd. 10u age group. Competition was good for us at the time B level.

They are trying to improve their program and have hired Michelle Batts and Venus Taylor to the group. I think they know they have some image issues.

They are also partnering with ASA for some qualifiers.

Past experience with them was NOT good. (Pigeon Forge TN)
Most Ive heard about them since has not been good either...

Had a 16u team dropped into the 14u field (they had to close out a 16u flight due to not enough teams) - - without contacting the 14u teams involved or getting their OK. The directors/reps for GameDay were hard to find, and when found really seemed more like marketing types, not 'softball' people...very difficult to get answers if ya know what I mean!

Always nice to play in a 14u tournament and the other team has girls driving up to your field lol!

They were a bit spotty when my team played in them a couple of years ago. Second-rate fields that weren't worked between games, small number of teams, and as another poster said no one on-site for much of the time. They also pulled this thing that if you're staying in a hotel you have to use one of their approved hotels or you will be dropped from the tournament or have to pay an extra fee (can't remember which for sure).

Perhaps it has changed since then. But they had very much of a startup feel then, and not in a good way.

Ken and Thompson you are exactly right all of that was true for us as well. Fields werent very good. Werent worked inbetween games. I had forgotten about the hotel issues. We stayed at a different hotel. A parent reserved a block of rooms for a "family reunion" for our organization.

Game Day usually draws rec all-star or lower level travel teams. Tournaments are usually small. Umpiring is usually very weak. Read the fine print on their refund policy. There basically is none. They say there is a 4 game guarantee. You'll play pool games and the top 8 teams will go into a single elimination playoff format. The remainder of the other teams will play one meaningless game on Sunday and that's it. There is no playing into the elimination bracket if you are not in the top 8.

I made the mistake of entering a Game Day tournament once and only once. Will never enter another one. I don't know how much time Venus Taylor will have for Game Day. She is running her own Taylor Made program out of Bo Jackson's dome in Lockport, Illinois. Michelle Batts played for a slightly above average program in the Chicago suburbs and for Northwestern. Beyond the Chicago area I don't know how much her name will draw.

Unless Game Day completely revamps their business model I see Venus and Michelle sporting head aches and large bumps on their foreheads from banging their heads against the wall.
