The other day we had a batter/runner run through first base after hitting a ball to third base. The player at third was toyed with by a runner on second and she made a very late throw to first, so late in fact the batter/runner had started back up the line to first and kinda flinched as the ball was thrown to first and was tagged out by the player at first. When i say flinched I mean she attempted to hurry up getting back to first and made no attempt toward second she was called out. I dont think this was the right call as no motion was taken to second only into the direction of first, anyway still out. HS game.

The only way a runner can be tagged out while returning to first after over-running first is if there was an attempt at advancing, if an attempt is made then it is a foot race to either return to the bag before a tag is applied or the runner advances toward second

The rule book says that, I know that, you know that, but blue didnt see it that way.

Sometimes the Ump will get it wrong. Nothing you can do about it. The umps were both caught watching the possible play at second and then saw your girl scrambling back to the bag and assumed she was caught.

The weather and the umps. You can't control either so don't get caught up in complaining about either, the kids pick up on it.
