Dumbest rule in softball. How can a runner not be out if she is hit by a batted ball. I don’t understand why it matters if it goes past a defensive player who isn’t even close to the play. The runner still interferes with the play. Stupid stupid stupid. We don’t need special rules because they’re girls. Curious what’s the logic behind that rule. Cost my daughters team the championship

It didn't cost your daughters team anything, and if it had already passed an infielder then hitting the runner didn't interfere with anything. And by the way, its not a special rule for girls, every stick and ball sport has the rule. In other words, baseball has the exact same rule.

Look up baseball rules smart guy, as long as it’s not touched by a fielder the runner hit by a batted ball is out. Doesn’t matter if it passes an infielder

So when the ball hit the runner it changed the direction of the ball path. Going past the right fielder who was running in to get the grounder. Cost her team 2 extra runs

Well just for you smart guy, here is directly from the OBR baseball rule book. Notice it says touched or passes. It does not have to be touched, so yes the rule is the same in baseball.

(f) He is touched by a fair ball in fair territory before the ball has touched or passed an infielder. The ball is dead and no runner may score, nor runners advance, except runners forced to advance. EXCEPTION: If a runner is touching his base when touched by an Infield Fly, he is not out, although the batter is out;

Not sure where you’re getting your rules from. As long as the fielder doesn’t make an attempt to field the ball it doesn’t matter who it passes. The rule for softball is dumb and should be revised

I know that’s the proper call. Just think it’s a silly rule. Why does it matter in softball if the ball goes past an infielder who isn’t even near the play.

That copy and paste is directly from 2018 OBR baseball rules so that's where I got it from. You are flat out wrong, the rule is the same in baseball and softball. You can gripe all you want but it is just another rule of the game and it is the same across all rule sets.

Here is the link. page 46 is where you will find the rule. http://mlb.mlb.com/documents/0/8/0/268272080/2018_Official_Baseball_Rules.pdf

I have provided you the link to exactly where I got the baseball rule from, so you can go look it up for yourself.

And the rule in softball is, if it has passed an infielder and the umpire judges no other fielder had a possible play, the runner is not out. So, apparently the umpire judged no other fielder had a possible play.
