Runners on 1st and 2nd.

Batter hits the ball shortstop an on the throw to first it's over throw an the 1st base coach puts her foot out to stop the ball but ends up kicking it and it rolls to the fence on first base side.

What should the ruling be?

The coach should be called for interference. Don't have a rule book in front of me but I would think the runner closest to home would be called out.

Then the coach should be asked why was she trying to help the defense? Unless it was a super lopsided game and she was trying to help keep it under control.

Unless the kick prevented the defense from making a play, I don't think you would call an out. Dead ball, put runners at 1, 2, and 3.

Same question has been posted in at least one or 2 other forums. There has to be a play to interfere with in order to have interference. The defense overthrew the ball so at that point what play was being interfered with? Its a blocked ball by the offensive team. Dead ball, all runners return to the last base occupied at time of the blocked ball unless forced to advance by the batter/runner.
