Coach this weekend playing his 12u team up in 14 bracket.....not a bad local 12u team, they were lucky it was a weak bracket, though......they got two wins out of the weekend

in our game he was running his mouth before things even started.....there's history (from their side) with our program, they really aren't a blip on my radar

my leadoff batter ripped the 2nd pitch to center......and it sounded like mush......we had it checked, and it was a softie....it got thrown out

his daughter was the SP.......ball came out of their dugout, in my mind there's NO way even a 12u pitcher doesn't know she's throwing a softie.....

happened again later in the weekend with the same team, also home team (P warming up with a game ball, comes out to start the first with a game ball in hand)

i didn't obviously think much of it until later on......it was obviously purposeful, and it is apparently a favored enough trick that they pulled it twice

how can/should this be handled? kind of hard to prove intent, i would think, at least until they were caught doing it once......but what should/could blue have done here?

Blue should handle and inspect every ball before it is given to pitcher.

Usually how it works unless there are a lot of foul balls and sometimes ball goes directly to P, not supposed to work that way. Every ball should go through ump.

I've seen games even at 16U where neither team noticed they were using softies until the third inning.

That's why balls are always suppose to go through the umpire before being put into play.

I don't see how that was an accident. My first year 12U pitcher is insanely picky about what kind of ball she'll pitch with. No way one of those is getting by her. She'd know right away. That's pretty bad. Some of these guys have no shame.

yeah, my #1 has known what brands she likes and doesn't like since 2nd year 10u.......we had Baden's this weekend, and the 2-seamer stopped being a go to for us as a result lol

home team getting a game ball from blue to warm up with is not unheard of.......but this happened same team, twice......and did not surprise me a bit

i guess my question is, would this be a warning for illegal equipment? same as a bat or something of that nature?

blue just checked the ball and tossed it, and no one really talked about how it got there.......but in retrospect, it clearly came out of the dugout with her

DD pitches, she gets a game ball when she steps on plate for her few pitches when game starts.

I do not think there is a penalty because procedures are in place for this not to happen that are being ignored.
