With two outs you sub the lf for pinch hitter. Runner on 1st gets thrown out during the at bat, ending the inning.

Does the ph have to play defense to finish her ab the next inning? The pinch hitter was subbed in, correct?

If you are speaking about that particular pinch hitter coming back to bat the next inning, yes they would have to play defense in order to remain in the lineup. NCAA only starters have a reentry, if the pinch hitter were pulled for the original lf to come back and play defense then they could not reenter the game to bat the next inning.

That’s what I thought. Wanted to make sure I was thinking about that right.

Thanks to both!
