Ok guys here is how it broke down. One Strike on batter, she shows bunt then pulls back and swings. Ball is tipped by bat off Catchers knee pad. The Ball then travels up in the air where it is caught by the charging First baseman. What is the call? Second question is would the call change if there were two strikes?

That is not a foul tip, that is a foul ball. A foul tip is a ball that goes directly and sharply from the bat directly to the catchers hand or glove. If it does that and is caught, or deflects off the catchers hand or glove, contacts their body and is controlled before hitting the ground it is still a foul tip. If it does not go sharply and directly to the hand or glove and contacts the catchers body, it is a foul ball.

So it would be an out then? Because ump called foul tip and let hitter resume. We felt it was an out and appealed, but ump said foul tip

It's was a foul ball that was caught. So why is it not an out?

More specifically a foul ball caught by first baseman

To start, you cannot catch a foul ball in flight. A ball which goes directly from the bat to any part of the catch other than the glove or hands is, by rule, a foul ball. USA 1.FOUL BALL.G; NFHS 2.25.g

And the catcher had to be the one who catches the ball if it does rebound in the air. It's a foul ball if another defender ends up catching it.
