? Playing on more than 1 TB team

My dd is 11 plays for a local tb team. It has a lot of her friends on the team. We know in July the team is going to bust up so we are searching for a new team for the fall season. So as I start inquiring about tryouts in fall to other teams in our area. They want her to start playing with them now. I told new coach she couldn’t quit current team because it would end the season for her friends. Our team wasn’t playing this weekend so we “picked up” with the new team and she pitched for them the whole weekend. My ? Is what are the rules for playing on more than 1 team. What are the cans and can’ts. Thanks in advance

In general there aren't rules, but there are issues that can arise if either team is thinking Nationals. You can still get around it with guest playing etc.

However, I would be careful that you don't overextend your DD. I see players either can't play any longer or are a shell of themselves from playing too much at a young age.

As CJ said, there aren't any rules. However, I know of teams that will dismiss you immediately if they find that you are playing (or even trying out) with another team. That said, in your case, knowing the team will be breaking up in the future, the situation is likely to be different. As long as the coaches on both sides know what's going on, you should be able to avoid any issues. What will you do if she tries out for a team that wants her to join immediately, and not wait until the fall?

Nationals ramifications aside, do you want her playing for a coach who would tell her to quit playing for her current team before their season is over?

The new coach understands she is not going to quit old team and says staying with them is the right thing to do. Old coach doesn’t know yet I am going to tell him at next practice. New team is much better and plays in bigger better tournaments. So this move will be good for dd in the Fall. Old team is C class and I’ve heard parents around fields saying “that pitcher was pitching for a team in A class last weekend so she can’t pitch for this team in C class”. This is main reason for me starting this thread. Is there any truth to this.

No, players are classed by what level their team is registered at. Players may guest play at their class or above. A player from a C team may guest play with an A or B team. An A player may not guest with a B or a C team.

If your DD is a C pitcher that can pitch at an A level all weekend, expect to hear complaints when she goes back to playing C tourneys.

You have a few options:
a.) Tell the parents to get a life.
b.) Try to keep a straight face, and say to them "Oh - you subscribe to the Louisiana 12U Scouting Softball Elite Report too?!" (Acronym: LouSSER?)
c.) Apologize profusely to them for unintended confusion, then gently correct their misconception by explaining "she did pitch, but last week she only threw left-handed".

Realistically, this shouldn't be a very complicated decision. She's commited to local for the summer, so continue that obligation and have fun with the friends. Without any team rules about guest play, practice and play at will as a guest. If schedules collide, her primary 2018 commitment takes priority. Within sanctioned play, guest safely at your team's competition level or greater. When the local TB team season ends, you've said the team will "bust up". Assuming that means the team has already decided that 2018 is it's last year of existance, there's no need or obligation to inform the current head coach of your plans for 2019. Until then, mute the noise. ;)

By the way, welcome!

Chris
