Looks like the correct call was made? Runner called out. The catcher had the ball and did not impede that path of the runner. If obs wad called that's a shame

I agree looks like an out to me. But I could see an argument that C was in line of runners path before she received the ball. Though I'm with Inde, I think this should be an out and not obstruction.

Bing in front of the plate is not by itself obstruction. You do not have obstruction until the runner is impeded in some way by a fielder without possession of the ball. There was absolutely nothing to call but the out in the video.

Nothing wrong with the play at the plate...ball is there before the runner, so no obstruction there.

However, the batter dragging a bunt up the 1B line and then running inside the foul line could easily have been an interference issue.

That's probably called obstruction in an NCAA game, but as the umpires here tell us all the time, the NCAA game barely resembles the game at any other level.

I'm in agreement with the group that this play is nothing but an out.

Just an added wrinkle that NCAA throws into the obstruction rule....If the ball clearly beats the runner, the out stands and obstruction is ignored. From what I see in the video, that would probably be the call in an NCAA game

There was a video posted here a couple months ago where the runner was farther from home plate and the catcher was less obstruction-y and the obstruction call was made and everyone seemed to agree it was the right call based on the bad rule.

Distance from the plate (or any base) is irrelevant. The only thing that is relevant is if a defender impedes, hinders, etc. the runner without possession of the ball
