Bunted ball that doesn't go above the catchers head and the catcher catches it in foul territory (straight back). Is it an out or a foul tip strike? It does hang but not above the catchers head.
That's how I took what he wrote now that I read your interpretation of what he wrote...I'd agree with you. I took straight back to mean directly back into catchers glove...maybe not???Don't know how this myth doesn't die.
No player's head has anything to do with the rules. A foul tip is a ball which goes directly and sharply to the catcher's glove/mitt. As described, this is a caught fly ball.
Really hard to describe. It wasn't sharp but it wasn't a pop up. They called the hitter out and then everyone agreed that nobody knew what the call was and stuck with an out. Thought it was actually good umpiring.
