We were playing a Game on Sunday. Other team had R2 and R3.

Batter his a rocket towards left side of 2nd base that hit the R2. The called runner out gave hitter 1st and made the R3 go back to 3rd.

Our SS was at least 15 feet away and had no shot at it. Since no one had a play on the ball could the other team had argued that or is it an automatic out since it didn't pass anyone on our IF yet.

What you have is interference on the offense. The umpires made the correct call. The ball is immediately dead once it hits a runner unless it has a passed a fielder who had a play on the ball in the umpires judgement. The hit runner is called out and all other runners are returned to the base they occupied at the time of the pitch. There is no argument to be made.

No requirement for it to pass a fielder that has a play on it, just pass a fielder other than the pitcher. It could, however, still be interference if it passes a fielder and another fielder still has a play on the ball.

True. It would take a small novel to try and list all of the other possible scenarios.

The ruling for a fair batted ball that hits the runner is different from a runner interfering with a fielder.

The runner being hit by a fair batted ball makes no provisions for the "playability" of the ball, only the positioning of the fielders.

On this same play, had the runner on second collided with the shortstop as she ran to third, it could be judged that the shortstop had no chance of getting to the ball, so the runner would not be guilty of interference.
