Need a little help with this one: one out, runners on 2B and 3B. Hitter bunts, pitcher attempts to field the ball. She rushes because the hitter is really fast and the runner at 3B comes home (called squeeze), so she mishandles the ball and there's no throw. Runner at 2B advances to 3B as well. Now it gets complicated. Pitcher has the ball and is ON HER WAY to the circle when 1B coach notices that 2B is wide open because of the way the defense rotated on bunt coverage, so he sends the girl who just bunted to 2B. CF runs up to cover, P throws to 2B, and the runner is out. Meanwhile, the runner who had just advanced to 3B came home to score when the throw went to 2B.

So now I have 2 questions. Is the hitter credited with a hit or did she reach on an error? And is she credited with 1 RBI or 2?

Tough one, I have a hard time scoring a fielder's choice if no other play is made. Single, 1 RBI, second runner scores on the throw to 2b, runner is out 2-1-8? or maybe a caught stealing since since P had the ball?

Would any runner (including the batter) have been out if the pitcher had handled the ball cleanly and made the appropriate play?

If no, single, 1 RBI

If yes, E-1, 1 RBI. Credit a sacrifice only if the batter would've been out and the runner from third safe.

Thanks everyone! I scored a single, 1 RBI because the runner coming home would have been safe anyway and a play at 1B would not have been a sure thing because of the hitter's speed. Plus, the P was the only defender with a chance at it, as 1B and 3B were surprised by it and C had to stay home with a runner coming. I didn't give a 2nd RBI because I felt that the 2nd run scored on subsequent action and not on the batted ball. There was some debate among our team, so you all have helped clear it up. Thanks again.

It wouldn't be a sacrifice if the error prevented getting the runner at home. FC in that case.

Correct. Batter-runner definitely gets a stolen base (see below). I'm torn between FC and SB for R2 taking home. It's similar to a first-and-third steal.

14.14 Stolen Base
14.14.9 To a base runner who advances a base when the defense leaves a base undefended in mid-play. Statistically, a stolen base shall be charged to the catcher if she was involved in the play and charged to the “defensive team” if the catcher was not involved in the play.

Sacrifice bunt safe on error (it sounds like a bobble/error), 3B scores (RBI because of sac bunt), 2B moves to 3rd on same error. Now, battter out at second and girl now on 3B scores on the throw.

Okay, not sure what level this is. It sounds like the batter intent was clear. If the intent is a sac bunt, it should be scored that way. Your options at that point are FC or error and it sounds like there was clearly an error. If everyone was back on their heels and no one made it to the ball in time, it could just be a bunt single. But your description sounds like an error. As for the second action on the play, she was stealing second. Maybe to draw the throw, which is what happened. So out on attempted steal, runner scores on the throw would be my input into Gamechanger. Definitely only 1 RBI.
