A coach told me about a play for when you have a runner on 3rd, less than 2 outs and must have a run. I think he's planning to try it next week.

On a walk, you tell your batter/runner to run out the baseline into right field and, I guess, act lost trying to confuse the defense and draw a throw, letting your runner from 3rd score.

I know a baserunner can choose any path to the next base, as long as they are not avoiding a tag, but could this fall under the travesty rule or break any other rule?

Not sure about lost but if they over run first in a straight line by about 60' they can go into 2nd from the backside.

Assuming they need the run, I assume I do not want to give them the run. Odds are we are going good eat the ball, runner can do what they want. Get ball in circle and see if you can get LBR violation.

This is Little League baseball, so no look back rule. I don't know how long blue gives a runner to get back on a base when pitcher gets on the rubber.

Seems like working on putting the ball in play and getting base hits would be time better spent than on trick plays

If he is that desperate for a trophy you can buy him one for $3.29 on Ebay and that includes it being personalized.

We were playing in a showcase this past weekend, and watched a girl try to score from second with another runner in a run down, she missed 3rd by about 5 feet trying to cut the corner. It definitely looked like a set play to me, we caught it and so did blue. We weren't sure how to appeal it since it was so obvious, eventually we figured dead ball appeal and asked blue if she missed third. "Yes, out!" WTH.

Dont know that I would call it pretty common, but I know of a few coaches that teach their runners to cut bases in some situations especially with only 2 umpires. They know there are only so many things the umpires can watch and will do it when they think the umpire and/or the other team will miss it.
