ASA tournament. Bottom 5th. We are visitors and up 4 runs. Time expired. Pitcher hits first batter. I call time - run out to calm her down - 1st mound visit of the game. K's the next 2. Walks the next. Mound visit #2. Other team whines and blue makes me change pitchers citing 2nd mound visit of the inning. According to my ASA rulebook I get 3 in a game before I have to change. What say the experts? (I believe NSA is 2nd visit).

Umpire that doesnt know the rules. You get 3 defensive conferences in a 7 inning game, and you can take all 3 in the same inning if you like. You can actually take more than that, you just have to change pitchers if you take more than 3 and the pitcher that was removed is no longer eligible to pitch the rest of the game. If the game goes longer than 7 innings, you get 1 defensive conference per inning, and they are not cumulative. If you do not use any of your conferences during the first 7 innings, they do not carry over to extra innings.

By the way, there is no mound in softball.

Thanks. Thats what I read too. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't some obscure "but if" I didn't know about. DOH - circle. Still working on removing all that old baseball language from my brain. Thanks!

So given this language is there any circumstance that would allow me to pull a pitcher and put her back in later? Aside from starting an inning with a new pitcher?

Change your pitcher any time before the 4th circle visit and you can put her back in anytime.

To the best of your knowledge, is it the same in Fed and all the other major alphabets?
