Fair ground ball down 1B line, 1B picks up ball in hand, turns finds runner and tags with empty glove then turns to make next play as there were runners on base. Hands not even close.

3 umpires, District Semi Final game.

Sounds like no tag to me, assuming HS and NCAA rules are the same in this area.

12.26 Tag and Force Plays
12.26.1 A runner is considered tagged out if the ball is in play and she is not
in contact with a base when she is legally touched by the ball securely held
in the hand(s) or glove/mitt of a fielder. It is sufficient for the runner to be
touched with the hand(s) or glove/mitt holding the ball.
...
12.26.8 The batter-runner or runner is not out:
12.26.8.3 When touched while off a base with a fielder’s hand or glove/
mitt when the ball is in the fielder’s other hand.

Thanks - this helped me check. State site says adopt 2017 NFHS Softball Rules Book. This wasn't the first away game this was blatantly missed this season. Both were in Philly - must be a city house rule...

Other thing is it would be a madhouse if umpires overruled each other during a play. After play is over you need to ask umpire if the other 2 saw it the same way, most will ask. Maybe the other 2 saw it and the umpire who's call it was had a bad angle.

Thanks - agree - didn't get it overruled the first time we saw this happen a couple weeks ago. I didn't mention the ball hit that was fair and catchable by our RF, that rolled onto baseball field - hit the pitchers mound and accelerated. E9 homer. Wish they played District games on fields with fences... other team deserved to win and we had no chance at the next opponent - but after you see the same call made multiple times it starts to mess with your mind a bit.

I don't care who's house you were in, tagging a runner counts for nothing unless you are playing the schoolyard game of "tag". Even in Philadelphia!
