Really confused now.
Under USA could she have been called out once the coach tried to drag her back to the plate?

That is what the rule interpretation posted is indicating, but, every rule he quotes deals with a live ball situation.

Based on the USA interp, it is umpire judgement as to how long the runner has to complete their base running before accepting a dead ball appeal, and, the runner should have been called out when the coach assisted the runner in returning.

NFHS is the same regarding the dead ball appeal, and as for coaches assistance their rule book says during live ball just as the USA rule book does. Until some other ruling comes down from NFHS, assistance during a dead ball is nothing.

Please note the interp also differentiated a difference (no, there is nothing in the book to support it) between a dead ball and a ball out of play with "live ball baserunning responsibilities". Now, I have no problem with that, but I believe the rules should be changed to reflect that approach.
