Just an example of an umpire who wants to make the game about him unfortunately there are a few too many out there, just use it as a teaching moment high fives only from now on.

What a BS comment! Yeah, it was not a correct call, but I'm tired of people saying making calls is about grabbing attention.

Yes we did protest, umpire ruled that by placing the hand on the runners back they assisted the runner. Seemed we always experienced problems when plying ASA. The team we were playing we would run rule them when playing outside ASA and when we played them in ASA they would get all the breaks and would beat us.

IOW, you have difficulty playing within the rules :)

No I'm simply taking OP at their word. Exactly why as an umpire would you call someone out after hitting a home run because the first base coach gave them a congratulatory pat on the back as they went by if you did not some how think playing some kind of gotcha game where you as the umpire are the star of the show is more important than the kids playing the game? Do you have a better explanation.

Simple-- some umpires do not know the rules and some misinterprete them.
This one is actuall included in the 40 myths of baseball because it is a common misconception.

So when you protest and it is explained to the TD and UIC are they misinformed too?

If they do not overturn the call then obviously yes.
I have had TD's instruct me to call out the batter who is up--as opposed to the one who was supposed to be up-- on a Batting out of Order appeal.
I know they are wrong but hey-- it's their show.

We were playing in an ASA qualifying tournament in Atlanta and our catcher just hit a home run, over the fence, the first base coach patted her on the back in the monument of excitement as she rounded first and the first base ump called the runner out.

Egregious. Not only is this not assisting the runner, the ball is not live.

here is a video of another homerun taken away. sorry for no volume. But the announcers made a comment "The home plate umpire can not make the out it has to be appealed"

https://youtu.be/j0-WpM0plBU

Since in the OP and the above video the umpire called the batter out after the identical appeal process ( give a new ball to the catcher who then steps on the plate) I have to assume it is a legal appeal in NCAA.
