Few years ago I asked almost identical question on similar play. Texas league pop up. P calls it but last second pulls up and C can't get there. Falls to the ground. Scored base hit by the MLB tv announcer.

My book would show E, with no player/position listed. More for the coach to remember what happened. Had we been at bat, an error as well, and a note asking why she was not standing on second afterwards.

There's nothing wrong with scoring it properly AND making a note for the coach!

Mike, you must have a lightning fast team if they could/should be standing on second after the play in question. The shortstop was still in proximity to make a play at second, and three girls were within a step of the ball on the playing surface when the fastest girl on our team (2.7 H to 1st) touched the bag at first. I guess anything could happen, but the chance of anyone making it safely to 2B would have been remote at best.

I wish we had that kind of speed. However, if the ball falls like that, why not take the chance? Errors breed errors, and you HAVE to exploit them.
