People get so wound up about this. Don't know that I've ever read about, seen, or heard about an actual incident where a thrown bat hurt someone in a youth game. I'm sure it has happened....

There is no rule against throwing bats in most rulebooks, correct?

If the bat interferes with a play then it can be interference.

Let's just say, somehow, that a thrown bat doesn't interfere with a play but does injure a defensive player. What would the call be then, if any?

Nfhs does have a rule about throwing the bat. First offense is team warning, 2nd offense player is restricted to bench.

This just happened against us a few days ago. First time was warning to player, second time from same player was team warning, and third time from same player she was restricted to bench for remainder of game

I've seen umpires warn girls for it, then if they do it again, call them out. Anytime that's happened in a tournament we've played in that's how it was handled. I've only seen it a few times though.

Am familiar with a story of a coach at 10U USSSA World Series a few years ago...one of his players was warned and then "restricted to the bench" for throwing her bat after hits. Coach got very hot after the restriction, gave the ump a very loud piece of his mind, and said something like "You think that's throwing a bat?? I'll show you throwing a bat!!" and picked up the bat and launched it into the backstop. As you can imagine, it didn't end well for him.

You cannot throw the bat in anger. I assume you are referring to a bat release during a swing. Speaking OFKAA, you are correct, no such rule.

I was coaching 1st base last week. I have a spacey player, who went up to bat. The previous hitter's bat was laying there, so "Spacey" picked it up and threw it 60 feet, toward our dugout.
Not good.
