I have some friends that play ball in Texas. Their DD just started highschool ball. The tourney team that she played on during the fall are mostly 8th graders and still able to play together. The tourney team coach is trying to convince the parents that she can play both. Can anyone direct me to the Uil ruling for this so that I can help them avoid a train wreck?

Not sure if there is a formal rule against it, but most HS coaches do not want their players doing anything else in season. Also, most HS teams practice or play 6 days a week, so there is not enough time.

They can play both, but not advisable. Most if not all HS coaches won't allow it unless your kid doesn't want to play HS ball. It's only a few months til it's over anyway.

I remembered seeing a post on here a while back discussing a similar topic but I don't remember what states they were talking about. My initial question was in regards to Texas but I would like to hear what other states policies are. We travel quite a bit and you never know what situation you'll run into. Knowledge can be a very helpful tool.

Pretty sure in WI you are allowed to practice with the tourney team but cant play until hs season is over. Coaches do frown on this sometimes

There are no rules preventing it here in TX that I am aware of. DD was on an 7th-8th grade / Freshman mix 14U travel team last Spring and they just picked up players for early season tournaments until HS players were available full time. The tournament schedules for 14U and above don't seem to really take off until late April when HS ball is winding down. As long as travel club coach is OK with her missing early season tournaments / practices she should be OK. If she's on a HS team that has a chance of going deep into state playoffs that may be a concern.

My daughter is a freshman playing high school ball in Texas as well as Travel. Though her travel team is basically practicing through the high school season. Her high school coaches who both grew up playing travel ball and played college softball have said they will never discourage one of their players from playing travel ball as they fully understand that to get into college travel ball is the best route to take. Plus they understand that it will only strengthen her skills.
