Heard coaches teaching bunting tell girls that a bunted ball cannot touch home plate or it is foul. I don't believe this is correct because home plate is in fair territory. Is there a specific rule I am not aware of that covers this. Rule set is ASA or USSSA they play games in both sets. Do any FP rule sets call this a foul?

No, you wont find a rule regarding a ball hitting the plate being foul because it isnt. Home plate is entirely within fair territory. A player could bunt a ball straight down and it could be laying motionless on the very back point of the plate and it is still a fair ball.

If umpires are calling it foul, they definitely need to go back for some additional training.

If any umpire ever calls the plate as foul territory, s/he has never read the rule book, has never been to a clinic or is too busy talking or sleeping at the clinic to learn anything.

The plate is always in fair territory, nor is there any rule stating that a batted ball is foul if it hits in foul territory before moving to fair.

Wouldn't it be just like a line drive hitting third base being fair? All bases are in play?

(*except maybe a safety bag on first's outside bag? Assume that's foul, but have personally never thought about it.)

Thanks to all. Thought I was correct but never hurts to verify. I will address it with DGD at a later date, when she forgets it was her coaches who told her this rule, so as to not undermine the coaches. Probably wont try to tell the coaches they are wrong, no tilling windmills for me.

Look at the line. 3B and white 1B bags are inside the line. Orange 1B bag is outside the line.

Likewise, all of home plate is inside the lines.
